一個,人來瘋,手腳不停飛舞;

Watch Your Head” Visitor Guidelines for the Little Inn

“Watch Your Head” Visitor Guidelines for the Little Inn
  1. Introduction
Something you often hear at the Little Inn is “watch your head!” This one-story house is indeed short. A black stone wall in the front encloses a small yard in which there is a large wooden table and a hanging wooden bed. Upon walking into the small hallway on the side of the house, one gets a glimpse of all kinds of vegetables growing in the backyard garden. Inside, there are two rooms, a living room, a kitchen and numerous bathrooms.
*The first Little Inn was sold to a local named Ina and is now called the La Ke Inn.
For details, please see the related article at http://dulanfung.blogspot.tw/2011/04/blog-post_23.html

Now, we’d like to introduce our second Little Inn which continues the same idea of bringing an idle one-story house on the east coast back to life.

2.Share Your Happiness and Bear Your Sorrows Together
Sorry, but this is not a resort. Our concept is one of “help-yourself” living, which means that this place is like your own home, so you do anything that needs to be done. That is, you make your tea, you get your water, you sweep the floor, you take out the trash, you wash your clothes and so on. We uphold the principles of defending the weak as well as sharing happiness and bearing sorrows together in relation to the environment and other guests. Basically, we hold to common bathroom principles: think of the next user, leaving everything clean and in order upon exiting.

3.Say Hi!
Don’t be shy when you see the old man next door. He may be 92, but he sure can climb a tree! To him, every black dog he sees is named “Blackie”. He doesn’t hear so well, so you’ve got to greet him loudly (like as loud as when you’re cheering at a concert)! The family across the street is hard-working. There’s the father, the mother and their daughter next door who runs a hair salon. Be aware that the word “f---” very often finds its way into their everyday communication. They moved to Dulan from Green Island a long time ago. If you see them while you’re here, be sure to offer at least a nod of the head. Most importantly, please keep your voices low after 11:00 p.m. for the sake of all our adorable neighbors!

4.Love the Earth and Yourself
Please bring your own towel, toothbrush and chopsticks. We’re not environmentalist fanatics, we just don’t like to waste things. We’ve realized that we don’t actually need other people to provide us with these items, and we can make do by ourselves just fine.

5.Reservations
Please forgive us if we don’t respond to your online booking requests immediately. We suggest making reservations by calling us at 0928-040-114.

6.A Silent Existence
We do not allow non-guest visitors or interviewers into the Little Inn out of respect for those staying here. The Little Inn wishes merely to silently exist. Thank you for respecting our wishes.

7.Fee
400 nt per day per guest

Xiaofang asked me, “Have you ever thought of how to co-exist with a house?”
“Co-exist” with a house!?
She’s the first person who ever asked me such a question.

June:
On an evening after a rain, I came with Xiaofang from Taipei for a vacation in Dulan. Each day, we got Fei and Moto to come and do labor for us. Upon walking into the yard of a certain house, they said, “This place could become an inn!”
At the time, we weren’t really sure at all.
But I really liked that house that offered a view of the whole Milky Way,
not to mention the vegetable garden.
Thus, in the deep of the night, surrounded by quietly sleeping neighbors,
we couldn’t help but make a wish from the very center of our beings that this place would become our inn.

July:
We begin to get to know the house.
This was a house that an old man lived in before.
It is short and was divided into two living rooms, a bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom.
A life was lived out in this small space.
Upon looking at the house,
I frowned.
I thought, “What can we do with this?”
Xiaofang said, “We need to think of how to get a breeze and some sunlight in here”.
From that statement, our lives as laborers for a summer began.

 August:
A whole summer of endless classes on carpentry, pouring cement, tiling and making furniture.

September:
Each day we thought about where else needed a bit more, where else needed some of this or that.

October:
Weaving class and becoming friends with the neighbors.

On the day we notified the other owners of how the inn was coming along,
we suddenly realized: our dream is really big.

剛好,有東海岸閒置平房的初衷;
剛好,有棧長們與室友們;
剛好,官小官有很多復古方塊磚;
剛好,找到眷村爺爺的房子;
剛好,有一號到十號師傅;
剛好,巴奈、阿伯、額冷的探班;

It just so happened that we had an idea for an unused house on the east coast.
It just so happened that there were people who wanted to become owners and others who stayed as guests.
It just so happened that Xiaoguan had a lot of vintage-style bricks.
It just so happened that we found an old man’s house.
It just so happened that there were ten building professionals around to help us out.
It just so happened that Banai, A-bay and Eleng often came and checked up on us.
It just so happened that we got help from a variety of passers-by for a combined force that allowed the Little Inn team to continue the pursuit of their dream this summer.
And this force propelled the inn to cross over from imagination to reality.
We made this dream happen with our hands, and we felt this feeling of reality grow inside our hearts in a very tangible way.

出之前,有很多很多的醞釀,孕育未出生的生命體;

“Birth” is pronounced as “cu sui” (using Hanyu pinyin) in the Hakka language.
I like the word “sui” because it embodies a sense of announcing the beginning of one’s existence in the world.
Before the “sui”, there is a long period of fermentation, incubating the life that has not yet been born.
And after the “sui”, this life develops the attitude it has in interacting with the world.
Before, this house recorded the life story of one old man. Now, it will begin recording the new story of the Little Inn and those who stay there.

And so,
we’d like to announce to the world:
the “Watch Your Head” Little Inn is born!!!

Ina]

並且能順利移轉給當地居民Ina(阿美語:媽媽),
Ina

Ina

Ina
Ina

Roly,
